| Oscar Blancarte Director and Writer Born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. He graduated from the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos of the National Autonomous University in Mexico (National Film School), class of 1972. Since then he has done different documentary films, educational and cultural short films, TV series and spots for different companies in the public and private sector. University professor at the School for Social Communication at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, teaching Journalism For TV, audio-visuals and Semeiotics, from 1981 to 1984. He has been teaching at different universities and educational forums and workshops, conferences and Seminaries. His short films: OWEN (UN POETA OLVIDADO), OSCAR LIERA (PASION POR EL TEATRO), and CENTRO DEL ESPACIO ESCULTORICO have received national as well as international awards and honorable mentions. EL MILAGRO DEL CAMPO was the winner of the competition organized by the United Nations and the Consejo Nacional de Población in 1979. His first feature film: QUE ME MATEN DE UNA VEZ, was awarded the Heraldo de México for best Opera Prima in 1997, the same year it participated in the Official Section of the International Festival in Biarritz, France, at the Festival of Brussels in Belgium and is shown at the Cineteca in Paris. He was awarded the Diosa de Plata for OWEN, un Poeta Olvidado. His feature film: EL JINETE DE LA DIVINA PROVIDENCIA was invited to enter different International Festivals, being the higlight at the Latino Festival in New York, U.S.A., in Vancouver, Canada and in San Antonio, Texas. He won the Special price of the Jury at the VI international Film Festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico, OCIC award of the Muestra de Cine Mexicano in Guadalajara, and the award for Best Director at the Ourense International Film Festival in Spain, all of them for the film DULCES COMPAÑÍAS. His movie scripts Al Soplo de la Ira and ¿Y Después del 68…? received honorable mention in the contest of the Sociedad General de Escritores de Mexico (Writers Guild of Mexico). The children’s short film produced and directed by Blancarte: UN BOLETO PARA SOÑAR represented Mexico at International Film Festivals in Chicago, Puerto Rico, Toulouse, France, and India among others. ENTRE LA TARDE Y LA NOCHE participated as special guest in the 36th International Film Festival in Chicago; at the International Film Festival in Galicia, Spain; Newport Beach, United States; Mar de Plata, Argentina; Philadelphia, U.S.A. and was awarded Best Film by critics and specialized press at the 3rd International Film Festival at Figueira Da Foz in Portugal as well as Honorable Award at the last Cinemafé in New York, U.S.A. In 2001 he created and directed the Mazatlan International Film Festival, held in the city of Mazatlan, Mexico. In 2002 retrospective exhibition of his films has been shown at Filmoteca de Madrid, Casa de las Américas and Círculo de Bellas Artes, in Spain and other retrospective exhibitions were shown in Bogotá, Colombia and the Popular Republic of China. He recently concluded the Special Program for Channel 22: RICARDO GARIBAY (El Hombre de las Mil y Un Palabras) as well as the outstanding documentary for CATHOLICS FOR A FREE CHOICE. He has just finished his fifth feature-length film: POLVO DE ÁNGEL, which is a co production among Mexico and Colombia. On his role as producer, he recently concluded the shooting of the film CREPÚSCULO ROJO, actually in postproduction, besides being a tireless promoter of cinematographic, cultural and artistic projects.
