1. 2. 3. Lectura de Cuarto 1 Don Quixote de la Mancha Español 2 This semester we will be reading the first novel ever written: Don Quixote de La Mancha. You will read a scene from the novel and complete the comprehension questions. The next day, you will have a 10 point quiz. You will need to know important vocabulary and main ideas from the reading to do the quiz. Due at the end of the quarter will be some specific information about setting, time period, and customs of the novel. Look up information on the internet and in your novel and write a paragraph (3-5 sentences) IN SPANISH about what you found and how it relates to the novel. You will use this information on an essay test. The following information will be due for each scene: Acto 1, Escena 1: Who is Miguel de Cervantes? Acto 1, Escena 2: Where is the region of La Mancha? Describe it and what is there. Acto 1, Escena 3: Who is Dulcinea del Toboso? Acto 2, Escena 1: Find information on the castles of Spain. What region are they found in? Acto 2, Escena 2: Find information about knighthood in medieval times. Acto 2, Escena 3: Find information on the inns (paradors) of Spain, what do you need to know if you want to go there? Acto 3, Escena 1: What is the importance of the windmills of Spain, where are they located? Acto 3, Escena 2: Find information on medieval Spanish knights, who are some famous ones? Acto 3, Escena 3: Find information on the medieval laws of chivalry-some examples. Acto 4, Escena 1: Look for information on the use of humor in Don Quixote. Acto 4, Escena 2: Why did Cervantes use lions in this scene? Find facts of the province of León and discuss the symbolism of lions in flags and shields of the provinces of Spain. (Look at the ancient Spanish flag hanging in the room.) Acto 4, Escena 3: Find information on the sleeping and eating patterns of lions. See the example on the following page.
