Para esta nueva entrega del grupo Blue Lunch, el sexto álbum en su carrera, la banda ha contado con la participación de tres estupendos saxofonistas, que imprimen carácter, diversión y mucho swing a los temas en los que intervienen, como por ejemplo en los arreglos de “Honeydripper” de Joe Liggins que son excelentes y excitantes, así como en todo el resto. Diez nuevas canciones llenas de magia y ‘groove’ tienen cabida en este brillante cd donde el grupo expone sus credenciales de forma elegante y perfectamente ensamblados. Jazz, blues o jump se entremezclan con énfasis y a la vez racionalidad en este disco, que sin duda es un fantástico vehículo de expresión para que los Blue Lunch nos muestren diversas caras de la música negra, a través del sonido ‘vintage’ que ellos exponen de manera clara, contundente y magnífica. El grupo está formado por Tony Koussa Jr. saxos alto y tenor, Keith McKelly saxo tenor, Chris Burge saxo tenor, Bob Frank guitarra y voz, Pete London armónica y voz, Mike Sand piano, Ray Deforest bajo, Scott Flowers batería y Mike Rubin trompeta en “Reconsider Baby” de Lowell Fulson y “Rib Joint” del pianista Sammy Price. Un disco que no podéis dejar pasar por alto. MUY BUENO. For this new release, the sixth one in his career, Blue Lunch has included three great saxophonists, which give character, fun and a lot of swing to the songs they play, such as in "Honeydripper" by Joe Liggins, with excellent exciting arrangements, as well as in the other tracks they play. Ten new songs full of magic and 'groove' have been included in this brilliant cd, where the band introduces themselves in an elegant perfectly teamed way. Jazz, blues or jump combine with strength and rationality along the cd, which becomes a perfect way of expression for Blue Lunch to show us different faces of black music, thanks to a 'vintage' show they display on a clear, strong and effective way. Aquí tenemos a la auténtica quintaesencia del jump blues de la zona de Long Beach. Una banda demoledora y gran conocedora del blues del sur de la costa oeste, que interpretan con la clarividencia, el sonido y el carácter de los grandes maestros en la materia y estoy seguro Frank Roszak debe sentirse orgulloso de tenerlos en cartera de clientes. Los Mighty Mojo Prophets son la banda ideal para tocar en cualquier fiesta, bar, o taberna. Son un grupo inteligente que saben combinar diversión, alegría y talento y están formados por Tom ‘Big Son’ Eliff voz, Mitch Dow guitarras, Scott Lambert bajo, Johnny Minguez batería y Alex ‘Lil A’ Woodson armónica. El álbum contiene trece temas, todos ellos compuestos y escritos por el cantante Tom Eliff y el guitarrista Mitch Dow, excepto la canción “Boogie Woogie Rhythm” que lleva la firma de Whiteboy James, y que es quien canta este tema como invitado. A crushing band, masters of Southern West Coast blues, who cleverly play with the sound and the genuine character of the great experts of that style, I am sure Frank Roszak feels really proud to have them among his clients. The Mighty Mojo Prophets are the perfect band to play at parties, bars, or halls. They are a smart group which cleverly combines fun, joy and talent. You will find Tom 'Big Son' Eliff on vocals, Mitch Dow guitars, Scott Lambert bass, Johnny Minguez drums and Alex 'Lil A' Woodson harmonica. The album includes thirteen songs, all written by singer Tom Eliff and guitar player Mitch Dow, except "Boogie Woogie Rhythm" signed by Whiteboy James, who sings it as guest musician. He aquí el trabajo de un auténtico campeón del blues de Chicago, interpretando este estilo tanto en una vena moderna como en otra más clásica y tradicional, a base de ‘shuffles’, ‘slows’ y algunos instrumentales. John Bailey conjuga con habilidad estos estilos y lo hace con gracia y acierto, soplando al mismo tiempo la armónica con pericia, gusto y habilidad. Vocalmente John hace uso de un tono convincente y acertado. Bailey basa su técnica de soplador, en la influencia que en él han tenido Walter Horton, Little Walter, James Cotton o George ‘Harmónica’ Smith entre otros. Acompañado por Eric Duccoff a la guitarra, Jeff ‘JB’ Berg al bajo, contrabajo y guitarra y Nick Toscano a la batería, John Bailey ha firmado un disco fantástico, trepidante, potente, atractivo y muy bien vestido. Los diez temas que incluye el cd llevan su propia firma y el resultado es de un gran nivel técnico y artístico, sobre todo si lo comparamos con las muchas mediocridades que han ido apareciendo en el mercado en los últimos tiempos. Here comes the work of a true Chicago blues ace, which plays this style both in a modern vein as in a more classic traditional one, based on shuffles, slows, together with some instrumental tunes. John Bailey skillfully blends these styles and he does it with an elegant good taste and he also blows the harp with an accurate tecnique. Vocally speaking John displays a convincing right pitch. Bailey’s technique is rooted in the deep influences he has got from different bluesmen like Walter Horton, Little Walter, James Cotton or George 'Harmonica' Smith among others. Backed by Eric Duccoff on guitar, Jeff "JB" Berg on bass, double bass and guitar and Nick Toscano on drums, John Bailey has done a exciting fantastic record, with a powerful, attractive very well dressed music. Mike Sponza cantante, guitarrista y compositor de talento nos brinda dos álbumes sólidos, especialmente el doble cd “Continental Shuffle”. En “Rough Souls” Mike se presenta con su trío habitual, formado por Robby Maffioli al bajo y Ale Maffioli batería. Los tres son muy apreciados en toda la zona de la Europa oriental y han cosechado numerosos éxitos en el terreno del blues, sobre todo desde que Mike ha vuelto a la música en ‘directo’ después de estar cinco años representando el musical ‘Karanic Blues’. Son nueve temas interpretados en el formato de ‘power blues’ con siete temas propios y dos ‘covers’ de Willie Dixon. El trío consigue crear un climax compacto y mostrar al público lo que la Mike Sponza Band son capaces de transmitir cuando tocan en directo. MUY BUENO. El doble cd es un proyecto que Mike Sponza tenía en la cabeza desde hacía más de tres años. Se trataba de grabar un ‘European Blues Summit’, esto es, grabar un doble disco con la participación de algunos de los mejores músicos de blues de diferentes países de toda Europa y así poder construir un trabajo homogéneo con un denominador común: el blues. Han sido tres años de intenso trabajo y el fruto de este trabajo lo tenéis aquí plasmado. Todos los músicos que han participado vienen de diferentes formaciones y son algo así como la ‘crème de la crème’ del blues europeo. MUY BUENO. Singer, guitarist and song writer of talent Mike Sponza gives us two solid albums, especially the double cd "Continental Shuffle". In "Rough Souls" Mike performs with his usual trio with Robby Maffioli on bass and Ale Maffioli on drums. The three musicians are highly considered throughout Eastern Europe and have got great success in the blues field, especially since Mike has come back to live music after five years performing the musical "Karanic Blues'. The cd includes nine songs done on a power blues format, seven own songs and two Wllie Dixon’s covers. The trio manages to create a compact climax to show all listeners what Mike Sponza Band are able to communicate when they play live. VERY GOOD. The double cd is a project Mike Sponza had in mind for over three years. His project was to record an 'European Blues Summit', that is, to do a double album with the participation of some of the best blues musicians from different countries all over Europe and build up an homogeneous work with a common line: The Blues. There have been three years of hard work and the result of this work is gathered in this doublé cd. All the musicians who have participated come from different backgrounds and are the 'cream’ of European blues. GREAT Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges “Rock And A Hard Place”. Armadillo 2011. En esta nueva entrega Eugene Bridges cuenta con un estupendo plantel de músicos y una producción extraordinaria a cargo de Pat Manske, lo que ha redundado en un resultado sobresaliente. Armadillo Music que es su compañía desde hace varios años, sigue apostando por este artista, que es un excelente cantante, prolífico y versátil compositor y un sobrio guitarrista. Aquí tenéis quince nuevas canciones que siguen la tónica dominante empleada en sus anteriores álbumes, es decir, una variada selección de temas de corte blues, gospel, rock, soul, funky, baladas… una fórmula que a Eugene le resulta productiva y que gusta a sus seguidores y si todo esto funciona, pues adelante ¿no os parece?. Junto a Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges figuran un plantel de músicos de primera clase, David Webb a los teclados, Eric King al bajo y Calep Emphrey batería. Los arreglos de metal corren a cargo del saxofonista alto, tenor, barítono y flauta Seth Kibel, el resto de los vientos son Shane Pitsch trompeta y Mark V Gonzales trombón. Un disco altamente recomendable con el que disfrutareis irremediablemente. MUY BUENO. Cotton Roots son un dúo de Barcelona formado por Johnny Pérez a la guitarra acústica y voz y ‘Little’ Jordi Abad a la armónica y voces. En estas grabaciones también incluyen como artista invitado a Reginald Vilardell batería y washboard. Los músicos provienen de otras formaciones de blues eléctrico, que compaginan con este proyecto. Con esta unión pretenden recopilar material y oscuros temas de viejos bluesmen de todas las épocas, ya sean de los años treinta, cuarenta, cincuenta o sesenta. Entre los autores a los que homenajean se encuentran Skip James, Guitar Slim, Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup, Brownie McGhee, Sonny Terry, Elizabeth Cotten, Frankie Lee Sims, Little Walter, Robert Johnson o John Lee Sonny Boy Williamson y lo hacen siempre desde la perspectiva del blues acústico, interpretándolo con gusto, pasión, honestidad y el respeto que todos aquellos artistas merecen. Escuchar a estos músicos es una pura delicia para los oídos, no solo por la calidez, el sosiego y la comunión que transmiten en todas y cada una de las catorce piezas que interpretan, sino porque verdaderamente lo hacen muy bien. MUY BUENO. Cotton Roots are a Barcelona duo with Johnny Pérez on acoustic guitar and voice and 'Little' Jordi Abad on harmonica and voice. These recordings also feature guest artist Reginald Vilardell on drums and washboard. All come from other electric blues bands, they combine with this project. The purposa of this duo is to gather material dark old bluesmen and of all times, ranging from the thirties to forties, fifties or sixties. Ursula George “I’m Drivin’”. Self Production 2011. De voz aterciopelada y sexy, la cantante y guitarrista Ursula George nos aproxima, de una manera directa y cargada de buenas intenciones, a su especial forma de interpretar y abordar el blues. Ursula se pasea con comodidad por los vericuetos y tortuosos caminos del blues tradicional a la manera de las cantantes clásicas, también conocidas como cantantes de vaudevil, como Sippie Wallace o Ida Cox entre otras, así como por el Chicago ‘down-home’ blues con algunos ‘covers’ de Jimmy Reed o Willie Dixon. Miss George impone su buen criterio y acierto vocal en el repertorio escogido, con trece estupendos temas donde su voz y sus guitarras suenan concisas y convincentes, Ursula comparte y tiene como ‘partenaire’ a Marty Richards, que la acompaña tocando piano, batería y percusión, creándose entre ambos músicos una atmósfera mágica y envolvente donde el feeling prevalece por encima de cualquier otra circunstancia. El resultado es un disco de blues tranquilo e intimista. MUY BUENO. Gifted with a velvety sexy voice, singer and guitar player George Ursula approaches us, in a direct full of good purposes way, to her particular style to perform and deal with the blues. Ursula comfortably walks along the winding roads of traditional blues, in the path of classical singers, also known as vaudeville singers, such as Sippie Wallace and Ida Cox among others, as well as Chicago down-home blues with some covers coming from Jimmy Reed or Willie Dixon. Miss George displays her clever right vocal qualities along chosen songs, with thirteen great cuts where her voice and her guitars sound straigth and convincing, Ursula shares the recording with her partner Marty Richards, who backs her on piano, drums and percussion. The two musicians share and create a magical atmosphere where a wrapping feeling prevails over any other circumstance. The result is an album of smooth intimistic blues. VERY GOOD. |
