2. Relacionado con el 2º aspecto: Reducir, Reutilizar y Reciclar
El Departamento de inglés realizará las siguientes actividades:
actividad 1 INPUT THE LAW OF THE THREE Rs: 3R Reduce:
We must reduce the volume of products we consume. We often get things that are not necessary. We do not think about the raw materials needed to make those things that we do not really need, like oil and water. We must also consider the large amount of rubbish generated by packaging, Thus, reduce:
The use of disposable products such as paper towels or tissues.
The use of aluminium foil instead can use lunch boxes.
The use of plastic bags for shopping, take up the use of traditional baskets.
Energy consumption: use public transport, turn off the lights when not needed again.
Water consumption: you can have a shower instead of a bath, watch that the taps do not waste ...
Reuse:
It is about reusing as many objects as possible in order to waste less waste and spend the least amount of resources to manufacture new articles. You can reuse:
Paper: sheets written only on one side can be used as scratch paper; wrapping paper can be used a second time..
Toys: Donate those you consider old or you think you are not going to play with any more.
Glass: Try to buy returnable glass bottles.
Recycle:
It is to manufacture new products using materials obtained from old ones. If it is not possible to reduce the consumption of something or to reuse it, you might recycle it.
Paper: At home separate newspapers and magazines, cardboard boxes ... and take them to containers.
Glass: Do the same with any glass container. Baby food jars or jam jars are also recyclable.
Cans: cans are mainly made of aluminium which can be reused to make new cans.
Plastic containers, cans and cartons: milk cartons, soda cans, water bottles ... can be recycled placing them in containers for this purpose.
A. Vocabulary. Use your dictionary and look for the meaning of the following words and expressions:

Para desarrollar esta actividad vamos a preparar tres carteles en forma de grandes contenedores en 3 colores (verde claro para vidrio, azul para papel y cartón y amarillo para envases) a los que se irán pegando envases reales según corresponda. Se enunciarán las oraciones correspondientes según el ejemplo:
A DOG FOOD CAN must be thrown away in THE CANS CONTAINER.
The concept "sustainable development" means using and managing natural resources rationally in the present without endangering them for the future. We have to discriminate between what are renewable and non-renewable resources:
Renewable resources are those resources which are able to regenerate naturally because they come from inexhaustible sources (e.g. solar), important physical cycles (such as hydrological, wind) or biological systems.
Non-renewable resources are those that exist on Earth in limited quantities. We refer to limited deposits or regeneration cycles which are lower than the rates of extraction and exploitation (mining, hydrocarbons, etc.).. Sometimes it is the abusive and uncontrolled use what makes them non-renewable or extinct.
In short, our planet is full of "alive" and "not-alive" resources. Thus, giving priority to use of renewable resources will have greater capacity for renewal of non-renewable resources. Betting on the renewable ensures the survival of our planet.
A. True or false
The concept "sustainable development" has been known from the last decades of the twentieth century.
Renewable resources are those resources that exist on Earth in limited quantities.
Solar energy is a renewable resource.
Nonrenewable resources are limited and their rates of regeneration are insufficient.
B. How to save energy:
Check. Put a tick in the statement that you consider a right way to save energy:
Whenever I leave a room I turn off the lights.
I always have my computer on not to waste time when I use it.
I always turn off every electronic device, even the standby lights.
I usually have the lights of the hall of my house on.
4. Relacionado con el 3ª tema: Energías renovables ACTIVIDAD 1 INPUT The Industrialized countries have reached our current level of development based on burning fossil fuels. This pattern of consumption is primarily responsible for global warming and its effects are closely related to the generation of poverty. Therefore, to achieve sustainable development, what type of energy should be promoted? It is absolutely necessary to base economic growth in promoting clean energy. Clean energy is based on renewable energy. Renewable energies have limited environmental impact, low investment for maintenance and are presented as an endless source of free energy. Examples of renewable energy sources include wind (wind turbines), hydro (dam hydroelectric power), solar (photovoltaic panels), tidal (use of force of the waves and tides in the sea) and biomass obtained (from the use of organic and inorganic matter). A. Vocabulary. Use your dictionary and look up the meaning of the following words and expressions:
industrialized countries
burning fossil fuels
global warming
poverty
economic growth
clean energy
environmental impact
| investment
endless source
tidal/tides
waves
photovoltaic panels
dam
|
B. Answer the following questions. You can use internet to search information, drawings, diagrams… at home and bring the results to class to share information with your classmates. WIND ENERGY:
Name the parts of a wind turbine.
Make a list of advantages and disadvantages of wind power.
SOLAR ENERGY
What is a solar panel?
Make a list of advantages and disadvantages of solar energy in general
HIDROPOWER
What triggers the movement of the turbine in hydroenergy?
What role does the hydroelectric dam play?
Name three benefits and three disadvantages of hydropower
TIDAL
Explain how a tidal plant work.
BIOMASS ENERGY
What is biomass?
Where do you get biomass?
C. Find other examples of renewable energy in addition to the above.
5. Relacionado con el 5º tópico, La Aldea Global. Diversidad Cultural. actividad 1 INPUT Global Village refers to the idea that, because of the speed of communications and the media, to the human beings begin to transform themselves and their way of life become similar to a village. Due to technological progress, all the inhabitants of the planet begin to know each other and to communicate instantly and directly. This deep connection between all regions of the world create a powerful network of interdependencies and, thus, promote both solidarity and the struggle for the same ideals, at, for example, ecology and economy in the pursuit of sustainable development of the Earth surface and habitat of the global village. On the other hand, it is true that a specific event in the world can have effects on a global scale, such as fluctuations in global financial markets. Any act done for or against the environment in the developed world can have effects elsewhere in the world, causing natural disasters, impoverishing the population, or otherwise benefiting needy populations. This is what is called the “Butterfly Effect” A. Vocabulary. Use your dictionary and look for the meaning of the following words and expressions:
media
inhabitants
each other
deep connection
struggle
pursuit
| fluctuations
financial markets
On the other hand
elsewhere
impoverishing
needy populations
|
B. True or false.
The Global Village concept means that each human being lives completely separate from the rest of humanity.
The relationship among all regions in the world is due to the media.
Any act which perform only has consequences for our own surroundings
The “Butterfly Effect” demonstrates the close relationship among all people in the world
