 1. Why is learning Spanish important?  How can studying Spanish be beneficial to you?

2.  How do you study Spanish?  List some strategies that you tried last year and new ideas that you will implement this year to be successful.

3.  How can you apply Spanish to your daily lives NOW?

La Tarea (Homework):

1.  Brainstorm a list of Spanish words and phrases that you remember from last year.  Write as many as you can. The person that has the longest list will get a prize!

2. Students should have all required supplies no later than September 16th. Please speak with me privately if there are any issues with obtaining supplies by the due date.
Note to me: Make copies of free homework passes & Print Hall Sign Out Log. I need book log forms copied. Check to see what web sites work and not for humanities (ticket requested for flashplayer).

Order of Activities

1. Slips/ Book Distribution (decided to wait until Thursday)

2. Student complete Cat and Mouse Activity (went well – students rotated pairs in inner outer circle)

3. Finish review of syllabus (we must finish tomorrow discussing procedures, grading, and homework policies.

5.  Review the Spanish Alphabet (we listened to the alphabet but didn’t practice much.)

La Tarea (Homework):

Assignment 1:  Write down the Spanish speaking countries found in the following 6 regions:  North America (América del Norte), Central America (Centroamérica), Caribbean (El Caribe), South America (América del Sur), Europe (Europa) and Africa (Africa).  
Remember there are 21 including Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is not an official country but its official language is Spanish even though it is U.S. territory.

Assignment 2: Students are expected to have supplies by September 16th.
Order of Activities

1.  Warm up – Read the story on handout and follow directions for group work.

3.  Discuss journal entries and the Communities Standard (Next Journal Entry due on September 16th) – We discussed but talk more about my expectations and all the due dates for term 1’s reflections.

4.  Spanish Alphabet / Spanish Speaking Countries/ Saying where you are from in Spanish (We did not begin practicing alphabet. Students did begin looking at the maps and dividing countries into regions.)

Spain’s Geography (Autonomous Communities)

Spain basic information and history

Warm up: Label, shade and Cut out the regions of Spain.

This took all period for most students; those three that finished early practiced an online geography game identifying the regions.
Classwork pushed for tomorrow:
Discuss modern capital and the old capital city of Toledo. See the video on Toledo and its history (Write 5 facts about Toledo).

Spain’s history (Read article/ Complete Timeline) – two docs required (spain history and timeline)

Puzzle games/ trivia on internet

Las Metas: Distribute Books; Finish Reviewing the Syllabus; Brainstorm Breakdown; Begin Bridge Unit, Etapa 1 Review

Las Instrucciones:

Warm Up:

Divide your paper into columns labeled the following: Nouns (Sustantivos) ---- Adjectives (Adjetivos) ------- Verbs (Verbos)--- Phrases (Frases)------ Miscellaneous (Variadas)

Students work in groups to review their brainstorming lists from last night’s homework. Label this assignment – Classwork: Repaso de Español.

La Tarea: Complete activity 4, page 6. Complete activities 7 & 8, page 7. You must write complete sentences. Be sure to properly format your paper.

If you requested access last night to Wiki you should be able to post your comment now. If you introduced yourself in the request message, you do not have to repost. If you did not introduce yourself in Spanish you must return for extra points and post. Be sure to include your first and last name.

 C.     Students will listen to the Spanish Alphabet and then practice spelling their own names and Spanish speaking countries using the pronunciations of the Spanish Letters. 

III.     La Tarea

Label the world map with the Spanish Speaking Countries.  Indicate the capital for each country as well. Go up a couple days and check out the links to practice the geography games.

Day 3 (September 8, 2011)

1.  Warm up - Students will put their puzzle pieces together to review the autonomous communities of Spain. Students must have the puzzle fully cut out and labeled to receive 100% credit for the previous day's class work.  Some students had to bring it home to finish and they are expected to bring it back completed.
